Doctor accused of stabbing wife sought for violating protective order

01:55 PM CDT on Monday, May 28, 2007

Associated Press

ANGLETON, Texas -- Police are searching for a doctor accused of beating and stabbing his wife and then violating a protective order by trying to contact her after the alleged attack.

Luis Tschen, 44, was arrested May 20 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He posted bond, then called his wife, a violation of the order filed after the alleged assault.

An arrest warrant was issued for Tschen for that violation, but police haven’t found him.

Tschen has been practicing medicine in Texas for seven years after receiving his medical degree in Guatemala in 1987.

Officials with the Texas Medical Board said they were aware of the allegations against Tschen, a general practitioner, but could not comment about any specific case.

As of Friday, Tschen was still licensed to practice medicine, Texas Medical Board officials said.

On May 20, Tschen’s wife told police he had beaten and stabbed her in front of the couple’s 3- and 4-year-old daughters the previous night. The woman suffered a defensive stab wound to her left hand between her thumb and index finger, Angleton police officials said.

A friend of the woman, who was called before the altercation, arrived after the attack to pick up the woman and the children, police said.

Tschen was arrested Monday and released after posting $27,500 bond.

After he was arrested, a protective order was placed against him that included a provision that he could not contact his wife, said Brazoria police Chief Neal Longbotham. But not long after he had posted bond, Tschen tried to call his wife at a home where she was staying in Brazoria, Longbotham said.

Angleton is about 45 miles south of Houston.
