11:21 AM CDT on Friday, October 13, 2006
AUSTIN -- The president's most vocal critic against the war in Iraq was in Austin Wednesday night.
Cindy Sheehan was at BookPeople on Lamar & 6th Street signing autographs for her new book entitled “Peace Mom”.
Sheehan announced at the signing that she’s a finalist for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Sheehan’s son, Casey Sheehan died while on patrol in Iraq on April 4 , 2005.
“Whether you agree with it or not I think we should all be reading books by the families of people who’ve loss their sons and daughters in this war,” said Turk Pipkin who was buying one of Sheehan’s books.
His mother bought a house in Crawford where she and her supporters often protests near President George Bush’s ranch.
“What I really hope to do with it is to inspire people to do what they can to make the world a better place and to let them know that one person really can make a difference,” Sheehan said.
There is no way to confirm if Sheehan was a finalist because the Nobel prize organization does not release information about nominees and finalists for 50 years.
Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank, both of Bangladesh, were awarded the prize Friday "for their efforts to create economic and social development from below," the organization said.
