HOUSTON -- A wreck involving two big trucks blocked the westbound lanes of the Katy Freeway just west of downtown for several hours Monday morning.
The crash happened near Houston Avenue just after 5 a.m. Houston TranStar reported one of the trucks spilled part of its load, including a small work tractor, onto the roadway.
Police diverted drivers onto the frontage road for nearly five hours before the freeway was reopened.
Commuters were warned to use an alternate route due to the traffic backup, which was several miles long.
No injuries were reported.
It's not known what caused the crash, but many Houston-area roads were slick as rain moved in off the coast in the early morning hours.
