HARRIS COUNTY, Texas –- A burglary suspect was sent to the hospital early Thursday morning after a homeowner in north Harris County opened fire, deputies said.
According to Harris County Precinct 4, deputies responded to a shooting call on Sweet Grass Trail near Rolling Creek Drive around 1 a.m.
Deputies found a man in the front yard of a home suffering from a gunshot wound. He was sent to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
A homeowner told deputies he shot the man after he caught him trying to break into the back of his home. The homeowner said he heard a noise and went to investigate when he saw the suspect. Words were exchanged, and the homeowner ended up opening fire.
As with any shooting case, the incident will be referred to a grand jury, but no charges are expected to be filed.
The homeowner was not hurt, but an ambulance was called to the scene after a young girl suffered a seizure at a neighboring home. Deputies said one of the bullets struck the girl’s home. The incident scared the girl and may have triggered the seizure.
