TEXAS CITY, Texas – Smoke seen by residents as far as Galveston County is due to a wildfire burning in Jefferson County, according to officials.
Concerned citizens began flooding the Texas City Office of Emergency Management with calls Friday morning reporting the haze. That haze was also seen in Chambers County.
The wildfire is in the marsh east of High Island. US Fish and Wildlife are containing the fire and hope to have it out by 5 p.m., Chambers County Emergency Management officials said.
