HOUSTON—The US 59 Eastex Freeway has reopened after at Parker Road after a string of crashes overnight.
It all began around 2 a.m. as a Houston Police Department officer’s vehicle was blocking the right lane because a single car had spun out and hit the wall. As a wrecker truck driver was hooking up that vehicle, a red SUV came along and crashed into the police car, and ended up hitting the back end of the wrecker.
The officer and wrecker driver were both out of their vehicles, so no one was injured.
The driver of the SUV was found to be intoxicated and was arrested, police said.
Houston police had the freeway’s southbound lanes completely blocked while they worked the accident.
Then around 4 a.m., police said a female driving a green SUV, who was not paying attention and did not see the freeway blocked, slammed into another Houston Police Department car.
The officer was not in his car, so he was not injured and the female driving the SUV was not hurt either.
She told officers she was in a hurry because she was late for work, and wasn’t watching the road. Police said she was not intoxicated.
The freeway was shut down from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. due to the wrecks.
