HOUSTON – Seven-time NBA All Star and Houston Rockets Center Dwight Howard visited the Salvation Army Family Residence in downtown Houston Sun., Dec. 22, 2013 to spread holiday cheer.

“I think leaving a footprint in the community means much more than just playing basketball,” Howard said.

Howard served food from The Breakfast Klub to the families and distributed gifts to the children and their parents.

“I want to be here for our community and let them know I’m just not here for basketball,” Howard said.

Howard started the D12 Foundation “to plant seeds, cultivate them and watch them grow.” The support in the Houston community was definitely felt on Sunday morning.

The children’s faces lit up with joy as Howard handed them their presents. He even made one special boy his little helper for the day. He nicknamed Quincy “Jack Frost.”

“That’s a pretty cool kid,” Howard said.

Howard told the crowd that he didn’t have many opportunities growing up to meet professional basketball players and this event meant a lot to him.

“Anytime I have an opportunity to give back or be a role model for a kid, I take full advantage of it,” Howard said. “I’m happy to be here in Houston, happy to play basketball and happy to give back,” Howard said.
