A Newcastle man watched from his kitchen window Tuesday morning as a scene straight out of the Discovery Channel unfolded. JD Hammerly said he works from home and was getting coffee at about 9:45 a.m. when he saw a bobcat (not full grown) in the back yard. As it moved across the yard, its mother appeared. Hammerly said the kitten chased a squirrel up a fir tree and the squirrel leapt from about 30 feet onto the yard.

SEATTLE -- A Newcastle man watched from his kitchen window Tuesday morning as a scene straight out of the Discovery Channel unfolded.

"The mother caught and dispatched the squirrel about 10 feet from our back door," Hammerly says. "She pranced off with the kitten in tow.  The mother dropped the squirrel so the kitten could catch it and they headed off."

Hammerly says he sees bobcats a few times a year but usually early in the morning.
