AUSTIN, Texas -- Austin rang in the holiday season with its annual lighting of the tree in Zilker Park.
The 46th Annual Zilker Holiday Tree lighting took place Sunday night.
Hundreds were there to "spin" under the 155-foot tower while looking up at the 39 streamers, each with 81 lights.
There was an art contest to choose local children to help turn on the lights, and the Barton Hills Choir provided cheer as part of the annual festivities.
Master of Ceremonies KVUE's Quita Culpepper also helped direct the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble.
Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell said he thinks this was the biggest crowd out for the lighting -- probably because of the unseasonably warm weather.
The lights will be on until midnight every night until Dec. 31.
