Sixth child dies in Chattanooga bus crash

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police have confirmed that a 6th child has died from the bus wreck on Talley road.

The Police Department’s official Twitter page confirmed this latest development.

The department says this means bus driver Johnthony Walker will now face an additional charge of vehicular homicide.

The Hamilton County Department of Education put out a News Release following the news:

"It is with great sadness that we share the news that a sixth student has succumbed to injuries sustained in Monday’s school bus crash on Talley Road."

Interim Superintendent Dr. Kirk Kelly issued this statement tonight:

“Our hearts grieve with another family this evening as we mourn the loss of one more of our precious students.

"I ask everyone to join me in a silent prayer this evening to remember another innocent child who has gone home.”

Funeral arrangements are pending.
