'Shackles' off: Trump calls Paul Ryan a 'very weak and ineffective leader'

Another day, another dispute between the Republican presidential nominee and the Republican Speaker of the House.

"Our very weak and ineffective leader, Paul Ryan, had a bad conference call where his members went wild at his disloyalty," Donald Trump tweeted Tuesday.

Ryan's office responded with a terse statement: "Paul Ryan is focusing the next month on defeating Democrats, and all Republicans running for office should probably do the same."

Trump attacked Ryan on social media a day after the speaker told House Republicans he would no longer defend or campaign with the GOP nominee in the wake of the tape showing Trump making vulgar comments about women.

As Trump and some Republicans sink in the polls, Ryan urged lawmakers to do what they need to do to save themselves and the GOP House majority.

"The speaker is going to spend the next month focused entirely on protecting our congressional majorities," said Ryan spokesperson AshLee Strong.

Trump criticized Ryan on Monday and continued to attack on Tuesday.

"Despite winning the second debate in a landslide (every poll), it is hard to do well when Paul Ryan and others give zero support!" Trump tweeted.
