Ex-congressman Joe Walsh no Clinton fan, but thinks Comey did her wrong

It would be a profound understatement to say former Republican Illinois congressman Joe Walsh is not a fan of Hillary Clinton, but the conservative radio host still doesn't think FBI Director James Comey is treating her fairly.

Comey sent a letter to lawmakers announcing the discovery of new emails that "appear to be pertinent" to the investigation into Clinton's email server — without any information about the nature of the emails.

"Politics aside, James Comey has screwed this thing up from the get go," Walsh tweeted. "He wrongly let her off in July & he wrongly stuck it to her Friday."

Politics aside, James Comey has screwed this thing up from the get go.

He wrongly let her off in July & he wrongly stuck it to her Friday.

Walsh followed that tweet with one saying, "Look, I think Comey should have said prosecute her back in July. But what he just did 11 days b4 the election is wrong & unfair to Hillary."

But what he just did 11 days b4 the election is wrong & unfair to Hillary.

More than a few Twitter users were surprised at Walsh's position. After all, this is the same Joe Walsh who tweeted last week that if Trump loses, he is "grabbing my musket."

@WalshFreedom You been drinking, Joe? Got a bad fever?

@WalshFreedom not musket worthy, but maybe blunderbuss worthy?

— Hernan Cortes (@ModernCortes) October 31, 2016

Walsh stuck by his guns and followed up with more tweets criticizing Comey's move. "U may hate me, but I'll always say what I believe," he tweeted. "I want Trump to win, but what Comey just did to Hillary Is wrong & really unfair to her."

U may hate me, but I'll always say what I believe.

I want Trump to win, but what Comey just did to Hillary Is wrong & really unfair to her.

He followed that one with: "Hillary is corrupt as hell, but the FBI Dir has no right to mess with an election. He goes public cuz of emails no one has seen? Just wrong." ‚Äč

The whole argument seemed so incongruous with Walsh's usual partisan positions, it prompted former CNN host Soledad O"Brien to tweet, "But--I went out and got a musket ... "

"Hang on to that musket. I'll teach you how to shoot it," Walsh replied.

Hang on to that musket. I'll teach you how to shoot it. https://t.co/kJFvRIO4NB
