HOUSTON — Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) made a prediction Saturday that Democrats would love to come true.
It's one Republicans, though, want to avoid:
"Texas will be a Democratic state within 10 years if you don't change," he told fellow Republicans at an event in Houston Saturday night. "That means we evolve. Doesn't mean we give up on what we believe in, but it means we have to be a welcoming party."
Paul has been outspoken about reshaping the party's image.
"We have to welcome people of all races. We have to welcome people of all classes — business class, working class. We have to have people with ties and without ties; with tattoos and without tattoos; with earrings and without earrings," Paul said. "we need a more diverse culture. We need a more diverse party. We need a party that looks like America."
The Kentucky Republican was in Houston at a dinner with GOP Sen. John Cornyn of Texas.
