KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Incumbent Republican J.M. Lozano will face a run-off with Bill Wilson for the GOP nomination in Texas House district 43.
The winner of the July 31 run-off faces Democrat Yvonne Gonzalez Toureilles (TOUR’-ales), a former three-term state representative, in the general election Nov. 6. Gonzalez Toureilles won her party’s nomination unopposed.
Lozano, a Kingsville resident who owns several Wingstop restaurant franchises, was a Democrat but switched parties in March.
His district was alerted by redistricting, but Lozano said the switch had more to do with his support for oil and natural gas exploration that angered the Democratic leadership.
Wilson is an architect and former president of the San Patricio Economic Development Corp.
Three candidates entered the race for the district’s Republican nomination.
