Perry: Election showed discontent with Washington

Posted on November 4, 2009 at 7:10 PM

DALLAS (AP) — Gov. Rick Perry says the elections of Republican governors in New Jersey and Virginia this week signal a dissatisfaction with policies in Washington.

Speaking at a Texas Economic Development Summit in Dallas on Wednesday, Perry said Americans were concerned about spending practices in Washington.

Perry said it was obvious that voters in those two states are concerned about a federal government "that is spending money seemingly hand over fist; turning the printing presses on with abandon."

Perry, who is fighting a Republican primary re-election challenge from U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, says the majority of Texans feel the same way.

Hutchison made similar comments. She said "the voters have spoken loud and clear and have rejected the policies being rammed through Congress by President Obama and the Democrats — a government takeover of our health care system, unprecedented debt, and higher taxes on families, workers and businesses."
