IRVING, Texas — Tempers flared in Irving Monday night over whether the City Council should offer buyout to their city manager.
Council member Dennis Webb walked out of a town hall meeting at Farrow Recreation Center. He is upset that the plan to offer City Manager Tommy Gonzalez a reported $500,000 buyout has become a public conversation.
"I'm not discussing it," Webb said. "I told you a minute ago, okay? I'm not discussing it."
Webb then abruptly got up and left the meeting.
Gonzalez' contract expires in just over a month, but Council members plan to vote Wednesday on whether he should get a golden parachute to step down.
Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne said she's shocked over the proposed contract buyout.
Council member Roy Santoscoy said Gonzalez has done a great job for Irving, and he deserves to be rewarded rather than just released.
