SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A political committee with ties to Republican Gov. Susana Martinez reports spending $1.4 million on legislative races in the past month.
Reform New Mexico Now is among the groups pouring money into campaigns that will determine whether Democrats retain their majorities in the Legislature.
The PAC on Thursday reported raising $1.6 million during October and is targeting about two dozen legislative races. Its top donor was the Republican State Leadership Committee, which contributed $715,000. Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson gave $200,000.
A Democratic-leaning group called Patriot Majority New Mexico spent $1.3 million, with three-fourths going for mailings and advertising. The group supports about 20 House and Senate candidates.
Patriot Majority raised $619,500, with most of that from labor unions. The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees contributed $200,000.
