Police: North Dallas gunman in custody

DALLAS — Police responded to reports of shots being fired in the area of Frankford Road at North 40th Place in North Dallas on Monday afternoon.

Dallas police sources told News 8 a man armed with an AK-47 was hiding in a heavily-wooded area in a gated subdivision.

Police spokesman Maj. Max Geron tweeted that the suspect was said to be wearing a blue shirt and a white bandana or towel on his head.

The man was reported to be in custody just after 5 p.m.

Geron said initial reports indicated a man with a gun was "actively shooting," firing 15 rounds as a fire truck drove by. Investigators later found two bullet holes in the truck.

Police, including armored SWAT vehicles, surrounded the area. Motorists were advised to steer clear of Frankford Road between the Dallas North Tollway and Preston Road.
