HOUSTON –- Officers say two men in a stolen vehicle were taken into custody after they led Houston police into the City of Sugar Land overnight.

The chase started in the 6400 block of Hillcroft after an officer with the Houston Police Department ran the license plate on a Dodge Charger. The vehicle came back as being reported stolen, and the officer tried to pull over the vehicle, according to HPD.

HPD said the driver refused to stop, and he got onto the Southwest Freeway southbound at speeds around 100 mph.

After a few miles, the suspect exited at Sugar Creek and lost control in the u-turn, skidding into grass along the frontage road. Police said two men in the car were then taken into custody.

According to officers, a gun was found after it was thrown out by the suspects during the chase, and a second gun was found still inside the vehicle.

Police said the car the men were in was stolen earlier in the week when the owner left his engine running.

"Apparently the complainant was in a city park on Fighting Colt in the southwest area of Houston and got out of the car for a minute, and the suspect jumped in and took off in the car," said Sgt. Larry Crowson with HPD.
