HOUSTON – It was a sad day for many in the Heights neighborhood. The Heights Presbyterian Church is a staple in the tight-knit Heights community, so when neighbors and parishioners saw it go up in flames, they were devastated.
The Heights Presbyterian Church caught fire and released billowing black thick smoke into the sky. The entire roof was burnt though and was left as a gaping hole.
Neighbors and parishioners were worried they lost a place where people gather not just for church, but for concerts and different events. A place where parishioners say anyone can turn for help.
“We love this community. We try to reach out to everybody in this community. No matter the color, the race, it doesn’t matter. You’re welcome here. It’s sad. It’s devastating. We don’t have a place to worship. I don’t know what we’re gonna do,” said Debra Lewis, a neighbor and parishioner.
The main sanctuary was not damaged and will continue to hold services.
