TEXAS CITY, Texas — Hundreds of people were expected to line up at the Nessler Center Thursday to fill out applications for Texas City’s Section 8 housing program, city officials said.
Demand has been so high for applications that the city’s community development office would be overwhelmed, so the city decided to have the application sign-up to ensure anyone who wants to apply for housing help would have the opportunity to do so, Community Services Director George Fuller said.
Section 8 housing provides a voucher to assist someone in the program to pay for rent. Texas City already has 400 residents who receive Section 8 vouchers, Fuller said.
