TEXAS CITY — A car fire on Interstate 45 and Hughes Road in Texas City was started when a vehicle struck debris in the road about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, said Capt. Brian Goetschius with the Texas City Police Department.
No one was injured in what Goetschius said is being investigated as an accident.
He said the driver, a man whose identity has not been released, was in a Mercedes northbound on I-45 when he struck a recliner chair that was in the roadway.
The man kept driving after the impact but other drivers on the interstate saw the side of his vehicle was on fire and indicated to him to pull over, Goetschius said.
That’s when the man, who had been traveling alone, called police.
