HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Teodore “Teo” Matase, 17, has had to grow up much too fast. Last Thursday, he discovered the bodies of his mother, 47- year-old Emilia Matase, and his older brother, 26-year-old Emanuel Matase.

Both had been killed inside the family's northwest Harris County home.

"Most of the time it doesn't seem real," Teo said.“I'm not going to be able to like talk to my mom again or my brother, and it's so weird to think how final that is."

The UT Austin freshman has always been a quick study, but now he is forced to learn things much earlier than expected.

“I have to figure out some legal issues with bills, the house -- l don't know,” Matase said. “There's a bunch of stuff I'm gonna have to learn.”

There was a lot of blood inside the house, no forced entry and the only thing missing is Teo's father, engineer Camil Matase.

Friends say he may have suffered from severe depression and has reportedly been seen since the murders in his native Romania.

What Teo will miss most is knowing someone was always looking out for him.

“Make sure you tell your family you love them,” Teo said. “Make sure they get that message because that's the most important thing."

He's leaning on family friends now. They have set up a fund to help with funeral expenses and Teo’s education.
