HOUSTON—A car burglary suspect fled from an Academy Sporting Goods store and led Webster officers on a lengthy pursuit Friday morning, police said.

It all began around 9:23 a.m. in the 21300 block of Interstate 45.

Views from Houston TranStar and Air 11 showed a man in a white truck leading police northbound on the Gulf Freeway to Beltway 8.

The driver then went westbound and exited at Fuqua, at times topping out around 100 mph, witnesses said. Freeway cameras showed the suspect jumping a median and running a red light.

The driver then went to McHard road where he traveled eastbound to 288 northbound.

During the pursuit the suspect crashed into several vehicles, police said. A driver who was struck at an intersection in Missouri City was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The 24-minute chase ended in the northbound lanes of Highway 288 just north of Beltway 8. The suspect pulled into a grassy area and jumped out of the truck with his hands in the air. He was then taken into custody.

“My audio and video is going to be interesting as I’m telling him to stop and give up. He’s not going to get away,” said Officer Ryan Sprinkle. “Alcohol may have been a factor. He did, we believe, throw some alcohol out the window at one point, but that’s yet to be determined.”

Webster police said the case is still under investigation and charges are pending.
