SUGAR LAND, Texas – A 22-year-old man suspected of stealing a car was arrested Monday afternoon after leading police on a short chase in Fort Bend County.
According to the Sugar Land Police Department, the owner of the vehicle chased the suspect, Justin Momah, who had stolen his car back on July 1. The vehicle owner tailed the suspect into the Sugar Land area and called the Houston Police Department.
HPD transferred the owner’s call to SLPD, who then spotted the stolen vehicle near First Colony Mall, police said.
A short chase ensued, before Momah bailed out of the vehicle in a nearby neighborhood near Chatman and McAllister avenues, not far from University Boulevard, police said.
Momah was apprehended a short time later near Colony Lakes Drive and Willow Lakes Drive, police said. He faces charges of auto theft and evading arrest.
HPD said that the crime actually began one week ago when the suspect swiped the keys to the car off a countertop in the victim’s apartment and took off.
The victim declined to say if he knew the suspect.
Police records show that Momah was convicted of evading arrest in Richmond in 2012 and twice for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
