MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Deputies are searching for two men who fatally shot a store owner during a robbery east of Conroe.
Sam Sadruddin was pronounced dead at the scene, family members said.
The shooting was reported around 9:30 p.m. Monday at the Shell convenience store in the 18300 block of Highway 105 East, according to deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Customers were inside and outside the store when two men approached and held up the owner at gunpoint. The men allegedly shot Sadruddin and then fled before deputies arrived.
Deputies called for paramedics, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Regular customers said Sadruddin was a familiar face in the community. In the hours following his death, friends and customers placed balloons and candles with "RIP Sam" outside the store.
“He’s been working here for quite a while, he’s very well known with the people in the area here,” said Brady Fitzgerald with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. “Everybody in the area knows him, and he’s here all the time apparently.”
Family members arrived at the scene distraught over the news.
Officials said the investigation was still in the preliminary stages and suspect information was vague.
