GALVESTON — The seaweed came in like a summer wind and landed on Galveston’s beaches. Officials said they expect more before the season is over.

Seaweed washing ashore is nothing new to the island, but Robert Webster, a researcher at Texas A&M University at Galveston, said this year’s bloom appears to be heavier than ones that have occurred in the recent past.

“I’ve been studying it since ’05 and I haven’t seen it this bad,” Webster said.
