HOUSTON—Houston police released surveillance video Thursday of an armed robber who has targeted the same three Spring Branch area stores multiple times.
“The last time he came he said, ‘give me your money!’ He put the gun here like this,” said Miguel Bonilla the owner of the 99 Cents and More store located at the 8700 block of Hammerly.
Bonilla pointed to his ribcage where he said the robber prodded him with a handgun at least three times since November.
Just two doors down in the same strip mall Raymond Khawaja’s M & R Convenience Store was also hit twice in November, just 9 days apart.
“We have to be careful. We don’t want to get killed,” said Khawaja who now requires that all of his clerks work behind locked bullet-proof glass.
“We’re concerned that it could escalate and somebody could get hurt,” said HPD robbery investigator Sheila Spivey.
Police believe that, based on surveillance video and descriptions provided by the clerks, that the same man is responsible for all of the robberies. A third location, the Blalock Food Mart less than two miles away, was also robbed twice in December. Police believe that surveillance video there shows the same man.
“Several of them (clerks) say it’s the second time he’s hit me. And they go it’s the same guy, we know it’s the same guy,” said Spivey.
Clerks at the Hammerly robbery locations are convinced he is someone who lives in a nearby neighborhood and works with at least two other men who act as lookouts.
The suspect is a black male who covers his face with a black bandana. But in one of the robberies he is wearing a distinctive black long-sleeve shirt with white writing that appears to say “Angels Faces” on the back along with an elaborate drawing of angel’s wings.
Police ask that the public look at the surveillance video and send any and all anonymous tips to Houston police or Crimestoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
