Ridgegate Elementary band leader accused of having sex with student at TSU camp

HOUSTON – A 42-year-old band leader and elementary school teacher was arrested Monday after he was accused of having sex with 13-year-old student at a band camp at Texas Southern University, police said.

Kenyan Rodgers is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child, court documents state.

According to court documents obtained by KHOU 11 News, Rodgers, the band leader and a teacher at Ridgegate Elementary School in Fort Bend County, was involved in teaching music at a band camp held last week on the TSU campus for middle and high school students.

Rodgers is accused of inappropriately touching the 13-year-old band camp student and having sex with her in a university parking garage located off Blodgett Street, court documents state.

No one was at the Rodgers family home this Monday afternoon to comment on this case. However, Nancy Porter, a spokesperson for the Fort Bend Independent School District, gave the following statement:

“Rodgers is on administrative leave. Fort Bend County ISD Police are conducting a separate investigation. The safety of our students is our highest priority.”

Rodgers’ bond has been set at $30,000 and he is still in jail.
