RICHMOND, Texas -- A terminally ill Fort Bend County correctional officer was honored with a deputy badge in Richmond Monday afternoon.

Officer Roy "Turbo" Turrubiate had always wanted to be a sheriff’s deputy.

In fact, he was half way through the University of Houston Basic Peace Officer Certification Course when he learned he had colon cancer.

So Monday, in the final stages of the disease, Officer Turrubiate fulfilled his lifetime dream at a deputizing ceremony in his honor at the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Grand Hall.
