GALVESTON — Two kayakers were recovered by rescue teams off the west end of the island Sunday after high winds pushed their fishing expedition too far off shore.
Police received a call about the stranded kayakers just before 1 p.m., and emergency crews from Jamaica Beach, the West End Fire Department, Galveston Beach Patrol and the Galveston Police Department’s marine division responded to a beach just east of San Luis Pass.
Peter Davis, chief of the Galveston Island Beach Patrol, said both men were brought to shore safely by jet skis. The man whose boat sunk was brought to UTMB Medical Center to be treated for hypothermia. He had been in the 67-degree water for about an hour.
