HOUSTON – A family was glad to be reunited Tuesday with a 6-year-old boy who was reported missing Tuesday afternoon in southwest Houston.

Neighbors noticed the child wandering in the 6000 block of Renwick at about 5:15 p.m. and then notified an officer.  The area is located about 5 minutes away from the apartment complex where the child lives.

The boy was reported missing around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Houston Police Department had brought in police dogs and a helicopter to search around the family’s apartment in the 6400 block of Atwell.

LaQuanda Oliver, the boy’s mother, said her son suffers from cerebral palsy and is unable to speak. She said he wandered away from home after she left to go to the supermarket.  His teenage sister was babysitting him at the time.

Oliver reacted with relief after learning that her child had been found safely.

“Thank you Jesus,” she exclaimed.  “He’s never done this before.  He’s never went so far.”

Paramedics transported the child to the hospital for a quick check up.

His sisters greeted him with hugs and kisses when he returned home.
