KINGWOOD, Texas – Houston police said a man was taken into custody early Friday after he allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend outside her Kingwood home.

Police were called to Glade Forest Drive near Park Garden Drive around 2 a.m. They were told that a man and woman had just returned home from a night out when an ex-boyfriend drove up and confronted them.

Police said the ex-boyfriend got into an argument with the new boyfriend, and he pulled out a gun and shot him one time in the stomach.

The ex then got in his car and sped away.

“We heard that he went home and grabbed his kids and then took off in an unknown direction,” said Officer Richard White with the Houston Police Department. “Eventually they were stopped by Tomball PD, and the suspect is in custody. Both the kids are doing fine.”

Police said the gun used in the crime was found in his car.

Police said the victim was sent to the hospital to undergo surgery. He’s expected to make a full recovery.
