GALVESTON, Texas — The planning commission recently voted in favor of building a nine-story hotel on the seawall even though it exceeds the requirements of the city’s height and density zone rules.
The vote, which passed unanimously, recommended the city council grant the property owner Amir Fadaei a special-use permit to build the hotel at 1328 Seawall Blvd.
Fadaei is the president of Houston-based Jaland LLC. Commissioners voted to defer his first request at their Aug. 21 meeting because they wanted more information. Staff recommended commissioners defer the vote until Oct. 11 to ensure they had adequate time to review artist renderings and studies provided by architect Michael Gaertner.
