PEARLAND, Texas -- A Pearland teenager is dead and another is charged with intoxication manslaughter after a late-night crash Saturday night.
Officials said just after midnight Saturday, Pearland police were called to Hughes Ranch Road at Harrington for a loud noise complaint near a construction site.
Upon arrival, officers found several vehicles stopped in the area in the 10000 block of Hughes Ranch Road and a Honda Accord that had flipped over in the ditch.
The passenger was partially tossed from the vehicle, while the driver was out of the car and walking around.
The passenger, 17-year-old Jasmine Quinones, died at the scene.
When talking to the driver, 18-year-old Nisa Sanchez, officials noticed a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. She told police she had been at a graduation party earlier in the night. Sanchez said she lost control of her car and didn’t know what she hit in the crash.
Sanchez was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Sanchez has been charged with intoxication manslaughter, a second-degree felony. If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
