Pasadena: Officials say refinery blast caused by sludge at bottom of tank

PASADENA, Texas – Pasadena Refining System says an explosion at their refinery Saturday night was caused by sludge at the bottom of a tank.

Apparently, the sludge ignited, causing a fireball.

One person suffered burns to his arm and was hospitalized after the blast, and another was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

There was no serious damage to the plant.
