GALVESTON, Texas – Beginning on Saturday, beachgoers will have to pay to park along the Galveston seawall, and the new meters do not accept coins or cash.

You must call the number on the sign or go online and enter your credit card number and license plate number.

Many people on the beach were not excited about the change.

"Wow that sounds like a hassle just to come down to the beach,” said Steven Hale. “I'd rather swipe a credit card or put some coins in the thing. That's ridiculous.”

You can also download an app to pay for parking.

It costs a dollar per hour to park or $8 for an entire day. You can also pay a $25 flat fee for the entire year.

The money will go toward seawall maintenance and improvements.
