HOUSTON –- A north Houston homeowner opened fire on a suspect caught creeping around in his backyard, police said late Monday.

Officers with the Houston Police Department said it was around 10 p.m. when the suspect was caught on the homeowner’s property on E. Janisch Road at Arrowpoint Drive.

The homeowner heard the man and came outside to confront him. Police said the suspect jumped a fence and was hiding in the bed of a pickup truck. When the homeowner told him to stay put while he called 911, the suspect allegedly attempted to attack the homeowner, who then opened fire.

The suspect was shot in the leg and the arm, police said. He was sent to the hospital in stable condition.

The homeowner was not hurt.
