HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- Neighbors in the Summerwood community want a brazen package thief to know that they’re not the neighborhood to mess with.

According to neighbors, at least three packages have been snatched from porches in recent weeks. The most recent one happened on Monday and was captured on surveillance video.

Residents are banding together to stop it from happening again in the subdivision in northeast Harris County.

They’re hoping that broadcasting footage of the crook in action will shame her and stop others from trying the same thing.

“I hate thieves. I hate them with a passion,” said Thomas Helgoth, whose package was stolen Monday.

Thomas Helgoth received an email on Monday morning that his package had been delivered.

He didn’t find it, so he began scrolling through his surveillance footage.

He watched the delivery man drop off the package. The video shows a car pulling into his driveway 40 minutes later.

“She got out of the car, flipped her long hair, put her hoodie on and walked right up,” explained Helgoth.

The woman is seen peering into the front window.

She is then recorded walking away with the package. There were two plastic containers used for wine fermentation inside.

“You’re an idiot. You just stole two basically plastic bottles, something you’re not even going to use,” said Helgoth. “We have the vehicle. We have the shot of your face. So I’ll see you in court.”

The video also shows what appears to be two passengers inside the car.

The package was tossed out of the car nearby. A neighbor found it and returned it to Helgoth.

“You don’t take things from people that you didn’t earn,” he added.

A neighbor who lives a couple doors down had a similar experience last week.

“I now take the time to go outside two or three times a day, just to look, to see if there’s someone somewhere they shouldn’t be,” said neighbor Mary Jane McKinney.

McKinney was searching for her missing package last week and later found it cut open.

“It looked like an electronics box, but it wasn’t an iPad, wasn’t a laptop. It was curling irons, and they left it next door,” said McKinney.

Neighbors told KHOU, in another recent case, thieves tossed a package after finding tile samples inside.

“They will get caught. We will catch them,” McKinney assured the criminals.

If you recognize the woman seen in the video, you’re asked to call the Harris County Sherriff’s Office.
