HOUSTON—What neighbors called one of the worst homes standing in Houston’s Westbury community  has been torn down.

Residents say Houston City Council Member Larry V. Green  was instrumental in finally getting the home in the 5500 block of Cartagena Drive demolished.

Westbury Civic Club President Becky Edmondson said the home was sold at a tax sale and had fallen into complete disrepair in recent years.

“So today is sort of a notice to any properties owners in the neighborhood of Westbury, and anywhere in the city of Houston that the city wants houses kept to neighborhood standards, and if they’re not, they will be demolished.”

Edmondson said a new home will soon be built on the site of the old one.
