TEXAS CITY — A man recalled Monday a violent pit bull attack that led authorities to quarantine the animal for 10 days.

The pit bull knocked Steven Henderson, 63, into a ditch, and he nearly lost his left index finger during the roughly 5:30 p.m. Saturday attack that also injured his terrier, Scruffy.

Henderson was walking his dogs in the street in the 2000 block of 34th Avenue North with his wife, Karen. They were about 12 feet from their driveway when he saw the pit bull coming. The dog, which he estimated to weigh 80 pounds, was dragging a thin wire and a stake, Steven Henderson said.
