HOUSTON – The man behind “Chairs for Charlie” has lost his fight with cancer.

The Garden Oaks neighborhood came forward to help 64-year-old Charlie George, who would grow weary on his daily walks with his dogs after being diagnosed with leukemia.

The “Chairs for Charlie” campaign started when neighbors put out chairs for him to rest in — first one, then two, then they whole neighborhood.

Azalea Street was lined with them.

They are going to miss him in Garden Oaks and so will we at KHOU 11 News. He died Tuesday morning.
