HOUSTON—Lake Conroe is a very popular spot every 4th of July, but this year water levels are low and it’s making boaters pay extra attention.

“We want to have a good time today, but yet we still have to be totally conscience and aware of what’s going on out here,” said Bob Cardoza, a boater.

The water is down about two feet.

“Normally the water is up on that bulkhead and this island is completely submerged,” said Don Beckham, owner of Lake Conroe Water Sports. He pointed to a grassy area in part of the lake. “You can’t see that island at all normally when the lake is up.”
