HOUSTON – A Houston mom put her children in great danger when she caused their family’s vehicle to crash into a tree during an argument with her husband, according to La Porte police.
Carlishia Jevian Johnson, 30, was charged with felony injury to a child.
Police said on July 14, Johnson, her husband and their four children were traveling in the family vehicle westbound on Highway 225. The husband and wife were in a heated argument when, all of a sudden, Johnson reached over and jerked the steering wheel to the right.
The husband lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a palm tree, ejecting three of the four children.
All four children were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment. They were later released with non-life threatening injuries, investigators said.
Johnson suffered two compound fractures to her right arm, requiring surgery. She told investigators that she only “touched” the wheel to try and prevent it from striking another vehicle, but a highway surveillance camera showed there were no other vehicles near the family’s car at the time of the crash.
Charges were then filed against the mom.
Johnson’s bail was set at $10,000.
