LA MARQUE — Three city employees — a police officer and two public works department workers — were fired or forced to resign because of allegations of stealing or misuse of city property.

Mayor Bobby Hocking and council members James Osteen and Connie Trube confirmed that they were told that within the last two weeks, a public works employee was terminated for selling city property to a scrap metal yard in Texas City.

The city did not release the names of the employee who was fired or the two who resigned. The incidents didn’t become public until The Daily News started questioning city officials, who were at first not providing information.
