KINGWOOD, Texas – A favorite substitute teacher at Kingwood High School passed away Wednesday at the age of 90.

Douglas Love recently celebrated his 25th year with Humble ISD.

Until recently, he worked every day at Kingwood High School. When he didn’t have a sub job, he would volunteer as a greeter at the front desk.

In a statement Thursday, the district described Love as "one of a kind, a true gentleman whose crazy hats, sincere affection for his students, and selflessness endeared him to all who crossed his path."

Kingwood High School Principal Melissa Hayhurst said Love was a beloved member of the KHS family.

"For me, he will always be an example of what our lives can be—that it isn’t just about providing for yourself or your family but making time for others, serving others as he has done his entire life," Hayhurst said.

Memorial services will be held at Kingwood High School on May 18 at 2 p.m.
