HOUSTON – A Humble ISD bus was involved in an accident on Beltway 8 in north Houston Saturday after the bus driver lost consciousness while driving, school officials said.

According to the Humble Independent School District, two buses carrying the Kingwood High School girls’ cross-country team were heading east on North Beltway 8 near Vickery Drive when one of the drivers passed out behind the wheel.

The bus veered off to the side shoulder and came to a stop when it hit the shoulder wall, officials said. The bus driver was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Humble in good condition.

One student was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hermann in good condition, while another was transported by her parents to Kingwood Medical Center with minor injuries. Officials said there were 30 students on board the bus involved.

The accident slowed traffic heading east on the Beltway for about an hour as crews removed the bus involved in the accident.

The district said no other vehicles were involved.
