16 units damaged in 3-alarm apartment fire in northwest Houston

HOUSTON -- Multiple fire crews with the Houston Fire Department were called to 3-alarm fire at an apartment complex in northwest Houston.

Officials said they were called to 4800 Lamonte Lane just before 8 p.m. Monday night.

Firefighters say when they arrived, heavy fire was coming from one unit. The fire then spread to the entire length of the building. At least 16 units were damaged.

More than 80 firefighters responded to the fire. The blaze was put out in just over an hour.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital for dehydration. He is expected to be released within 24 hours.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
