HOUSTON—Parents and students gathered at the state capitol Wednesday to push lawmakers to support a charter school expansion as part of National Charter Schools Week.
A group of charter school parents boarded buses in Houston Wednesday morning and headed to Austin.
They joined hundreds of other parents from across the state, calling for an expansion of successful charter schools.
"We’re not funded like the ISDs. So please don’t cut us. We even pay higher interest rates than the ISDs do. So we’re asking for more of a favorable interest rate. We kind of want to be funded more like an ISD because we definitely don’t get that kind of money," said one parent.
Organizers expect this to be the largest charter parent rally in state history.
