HOUSTON -- Walmart’s desire to build in Houston’s Heights neighborhood has set off a protest from some residents.
A lot of residents said Tuesday that they're afraid the community will lose its charm and sense of security.
Walmart has already drawn up plans for the store at Interstate-10 and Yale.
Residents expressed suspicion of the deal at a meeting with city leaders Tuesday night.
"How does a multibillion dollar company get tax breaks from the city of Houston?” one resident asked. “I will make it my personal mission to find out who greased the wheels at TxDOT and here at the city to make this happen and who hid it from us for so long."
Councilman Ed Gonzalez said any tax break would have to be approved by city council in public and he said that hasn't happened.
